Mark ‘Kaz’ Kazanoff
Raised with music by blues and jazz loving parents, Kaz started playing harmonica and singing at age 12. Kaz decided to attend college at the University of Chicago in 1967, and was able to hear the Wolf, Otis Rush, Magic Sam, JB Hutto, Hound Dog Taylor, Muddy Waters, Otis Spann, Bob Margolin, and many other great Blues stars. In his twenties, the saxophone became Kaz’ main instrument, and he has gone on to play on and produce over 200 Records and CD’s with many great musicians. Affiliated for many years with important Blues Record Labels like Blacktop, Alligator, Rounder, and Antones, Kaz continues to record and produce music. A long time resident of Austin, Texas, Kaz has raised three great children and has taught High School for many years at St. Stephen’s Episcopal School. He continues to play gigs around Texas with Jimmie Vaughan, Marcia Ball, WC Clark, and many others. In 1997, Kaz started The Texas Horns, a three-piece horn section that is featured annually at Festivals like the Ottawa Blues Fest. The Texas Horns have a new CD "Blues Gotta Holda Me" on Vizztone. His current band, The Recuperators, also features guitar great Derek O’Brien, and keyboard/vocalist Nick Connolly.
